I FINISHED MY NG MUSIC CLIENT FOR ANDROID! HOORAY!

Damn, why didn't anyone think of this before? LMAO!

I've seen attempts by others to develop a full-fledged client for NG on Android, but none of them were ever finished, even though about 17 years have passed since that post, lol. But even though my client only covers the Audio Portal, I still consider it something nobody has ever pulled off, although it would be cool if someone saved 3 months of development, lol. Although I understand that no one has been so enthusiastic about this site yet, so yeah, haha.

What's in this unofficial client?

• The ability to listen to tracks from Newgrounds: more precisely, a full implementation of an audio player. You can listen to tracks without any issues, even when the app is minimized. You can also download tracks to your phone so you can listen without internet.

• Full Audio Portal functionality, just like on the real Newgrounds: you can search for tracks (both titles and IDs from the URL are accepted), add tracks to playlists and favorites. There's also filter sorting, which, for example, helps you search for tracks by specific genres.

• Account system: you can use the app without an account, but if you want, you can link your account so your subscriptions and playlists sync. Most importantly, if you want to create your own playlist inside the app while synced with your account, that works without a hitch, lol. Especially if you want to sync existing playlists from your account, that works too. You can also subscribe to accounts, and if you were already subscribed to an account before, it syncs, so you never have to wonder "this musician has cool tracks, but do I follow their or not," it's all handled.

• Interaction with the outside world: you can also leave ratings and reviews under your account's name. And if you're the author of the track whose page you're on, you can reply to reviews under your tracks.

Stuff that not everyone needs, but it's there anyway.

You can also switch between themes.

Right now there are only two themes:

• Modern: the modern theme, styled after the actual current NG design, based on the real CSS of the site.

• Classic: this one's my personal favorite, lol. A classic theme styled after the 2015 frontend look. This style has volume and brutality, the feeling that you could eat every single element.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

Unfortunately, Newgrounds currently doesn't provide official API documentation that would make it faster to understand how everything works and how to integrate it into your app, so at some random moment something might break (for example, I recently noticed the favorites endpoint changed, so I had to fix it), but I'll also leave unofficial API documentation in the GitHub repo, in case someone wants to do something with it, lol.

Everything's safe!

I want to say that this app is completely safe and has no malicious intent, because it's essentially the same NG, just wrapped in an interface adapted for phones that doesn't lag (at least my Pixel 6 didn't lag, lol), and the code is fully open. You can go through the whole code yourself, and also check the VirusTotal scans. For the test I used version v1.1 from my GitHub repo.

So yeah, that's about it, hopefully someone will find this project really interesting, lol. Going forward I'll be adding more features, and it'd be cool if someone suggested some, since personally I think what's there is enough for me, haha.

Why won't it be in the app stores?

It's simple: because NG has content that "can hult chiudleeeen 😭😭😭" and all that, and I think if I put it on the app stores, then it would be pointless, lol.
